140 years of experience in the construction and real estate industry

Since the end of the 19th century, the name Soravia has stood for construction and real estate expertise. Giovanni “Johann” Batista Soravia (1841-1912) left his native Upper Italy and moved to the Drau Valley in Carinthia. There he first worked as an official river master. He recognized the urgency of infrastructural measures and founded the construction company SORAVIA Bau together with Johann Lindauer as early as 1885. The focus of the new company was on road construction. The construction sites stretched from Galicia to Gerlos and from the Lesach Valley to the Großglockner.

Shortly after the turn of the century, Johann Lindauer left the company and Karl, Johann Soravia’s only son, took his place. From 1932, Karl’s son, Erwin I, who had grown up in the meantime, managed the further expansion of the company. After the Second World War, his brother Karl took over the management of SORAVIA Bau.

At the end of the 60’s the 4th generation, Erwin II as well as Karlino Soravia started their activity in SORAVIA Bau. In 1976 SORAVIA Bau merged with ILBAU.

At the end of the 90’s ILBAU took over the German company STRABAG. Erwin II and Karlino Soravia continued to hold shares as core shareholders. After Erwin II withdrew from the operational business, the Soravia family sold its shares.

Erwin’s two sons, Hanno and Erwin III, remained true to the family tradition and embarked on an independent career in the real estate industry from 1989. They founded today’s SORAVIA. In the meantime, the 6th generation of the Soravia family is actively involved in the company.
